Privacy & data notice

Applies to v0.8.0 beta preparation build · Updated 10 October 2026

The website is being prepared for launch. Publisher details and support contact information will be added before public downloads open. This notice is based on the existing public app documentation.

How school emails are read

The currently available connection uses Mac Mail. Add your school account there, then select the school inbox in Campus Morning. The app accesses Mail through macOS automation and organises only the selected inbox in its program logic; the automation permission itself is not restricted to one inbox.

The app reads synced message bodies and extracts subjects, senders, received times, key excerpts, time clues, possible action items and original message identifiers for sorting, summaries, search and the calendar. It does not extract attachment bodies, send, reply to, move or delete original emails.

Direct Microsoft 365 connection has been developed, but the publisher application ID is not configured yet. Actual sign-in and school authorisation policies still need verification. Once configured, sign-in will use Microsoft pages, with sign-in and refresh tokens stored in the macOS Keychain. The app requests User.Read, Mail.Read and permissions related to sign-in renewal, and reads only the current account inbox in its program logic. Mail.Read covers mailbox reading and is not limited to the inbox at the Microsoft permission level. The app does not request sending or read/write email permissions.

What stays on your Mac

Account connection details, daily briefs, email excerpts, summaries, saved messages, the recycle bin, calendar, use dates, theme preferences and unlock records, and weather cache are stored locally at ~/Library/Application Support/CampusMorning/.

Up to 90 daily briefs are retained. Saved messages and recycle bin records are not deleted automatically. Saved messages are excerpt records, not complete email or attachment backups. Local files do not have app-level encryption; people or programs with file access on your Mac may be able to read them. Protect your Mac account and backups.

Summary methods and data destinations

On-device processing is the default. Apple on-device summaries are processed on your device. System title translation may initially require a language-pack download. On-device mode does not upload emails. If a capability is unavailable, the original is kept and the app distinguishes complete summaries, title translations and glossary hints.

Using your own Codex requires your authorisation. Once enabled, email subjects, excerpts, time clues and possible action items are sent to OpenAI/Codex and use your own account allowance, subject to that account’s settings and service policies. Campus Morning does not run its own email-summary server and makes no promise about third-party data retention periods.

Switching back to on-device processing blocks new Codex tasks and requests that running tasks stop. Data already sent cannot be recalled, and existing saved summaries are retained.

Email syncing and summarisation may create local temporary files containing message bodies or excerpts. These are normally cleaned up after completion, but timed-out or incomplete tasks may leave diagnostic folders. Do not share those folders without checking their contents.

Weather and feedback

Weather requests go to the Hong Kong Observatory’s public interface and do not contain email content. The app does not access your location. The service may receive ordinary network request information, such as your network address.

The current app has no advertising, automatic usage tracking or automatic diagnostic uploads. “Copy diagnostics” includes only app version, system, architecture, processing method and capability status. It excludes email addresses, messages and secrets. You decide whether to submit it. Hide private content before sharing feedback screenshots.

This website demo uses fictional emails only. It does not connect to an inbox, collect email passwords or submit search and save actions. Demo saves are held in the current page’s memory and reset on refresh. No analytics or advertising scripts have been added.

Your language preference is stored only in this browser and is not sent to the server. You can change it at any time using the language button at the top of the page.

Backups, deletion and uninstalling

Open the data folder from app Settings to back up personal records; do not share that folder publicly. Deleting an in-app email record or calendar item moves it to the local recycle bin and does not affect the original mailbox.

Before uninstalling, turn off automatic sorting and then delete the app. Deleting the app retains personal data. To clear it, delete the data folder and any related backups yourself. Deleted data may not be recoverable.
