GETTING STARTED

Start with your first Campus Morning brief

Check the system requirements, connect your school inbox and read your daily brief at your own pace.

Website downloads are not open yet. Version 0.8.0 is a beta preparation build. Distribution signing, notarisation and testing on more devices are still being prepared. These instructions apply to the current test version.

System requirements

First-time setup

  1. Place Campus Morning in your Mac’s Applications folder or your personal Applications folder, and run it from a fixed location. The test package does not require Python, Node or Xcode.
  2. Add your school account to Mac Mail and check that it receives messages normally.
  3. Open Campus Morning, follow or skip the first-time guide, choose “Connect inbox” and allow access to Mail.
  4. Select your school account and inbox, then save the connection. Direct Microsoft 365 connection is not configured for distribution yet; use Mac Mail for now.
  5. Choose a summary method in Settings: default on-device processing, or authorise your own Codex after reading the data destination notice.
  6. Choose “Organize now” to create your first daily brief. Then set the daily start time and enable automatic sorting.

Daily sorting and reading

Sorting starts at 08:55 Hong Kong/Beijing time by default and can be changed in Settings. This is the start time: email syncing and summarisation take additional time, so completion at a specific moment is not guaranteed. Your Mac must be signed in and awake. Weather updates and Codex processing also need internet access. Missed runs catch up after sleep, shutdown or offline periods.

Browse courses, events, careers and administrative messages by category. Read the summary first, then expand the excerpt or open the original email. Check the original for important dates, submission requirements and action items.

Automatic sorting can continue in the background after the window closes. To stop it, first disable automatic sorting in Settings.

Saved messages, search and calendar

Choose “☆ Save” below a message to keep its excerpt. Search past briefs and saved messages by subject, sender, summary, excerpt, action item or date. The app retains 90 briefs; saved messages stay separately on your Mac.

Choose “Calendar +” and verify the times in the email before adding an item. You can edit the title, date and times manually. The calendar stays locally and does not sync with Apple Calendar or a cloud service.

Data and summaries

Default on-device processing does not upload emails. If you use your own Codex, subjects, excerpts, time clues and possible action items are sent to OpenAI/Codex and use your account allowance. For details, see the Privacy & data notice.

Open the data folder from app Settings to back up your briefs, saved messages, calendar and preferences. These files contain personal email excerpts and should not be shared publicly.
